Really? New study names Jacksonville the worst city for summer travel

The Forbes Advisor study evaluated the 50 most populated cities

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A recent study took a look at which U.S. cities were the best and the worst for summer travel, and Jacksonville topped the list for the worst place for a summer vacation.

Forbes Advisor analyzed each city in three categories:

  1. City experience
  2. Air travel experience
  3. Driving experience

There were 16 categories to score each with factors including crime rate, median hotel price during summer travel season, temperatures during June, July and August, number of restaurants and transit score -- to name a few.

And, we have some bad news for the people who love Duuuval. Our beloved Jacksonville came in at #1 as the worst summer travel destination. The worst perfect grade ever, scoring 100 out of 100 for being a terrible summer vacation destination.

Jacksonville’s score: 100 out of 100

  • Scores lowest for walkability and third lowest for access to public transportation.
  • Jacksonville International Airport has the second-highest percentage of disrupted summer flights (28.9% on average).
  • Sixth fewest parking lots and garages (1.49 per 100,000 residents).
  • Eighth highest crime rate (63.99 crimes per 1,000 residents).
  • Ranks eighth for fewest restaurants with four or more stars on Tripadvisor (728).
