Dry heat bakes us today, but cooler change returns this week

Heat index factors in dewpoint to approximate the real feel of the heat.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville could break yesterday’s record high of 99 degrees today with a forecast reaching 100. The dry air will limit the heat index to 103-105 degrees, so no heat advisories are in effect. However, the dry heat will still be oppressive.

Looking ahead, daytime highs will stay in the low to mid-90s Monday but only slightly cooler behind the cold front in Southeast Georgia. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to arrive Monday afternoon, with the highest chance (50-60%) in Southeast Georgia and a 40-50% near the front with only a 20% chance in Northeast Florida. Areas ahead of the front will remain hot in the mid to upper-90s Tuesday. The cold front will slowly push through the region by Tuesday morning, bringing rain and isolated thunderstorms with the highest chance in northeast Florida.

We are not under any advisories because the humidity is too low to push the heat index to 113 today.

The heat wave breaks down Wednesday as rain chances increase along a stationary front that lingers through next weekend, with showers and thunderstorms for the rest of the week.

Jacksonville could possibly tie another record Sunday if the temperature reaches 101.
