The trial judge dismissed Juror 13 citing that the juror disregarded the courtโs instruction that he makes a guilty or not-guilty decision based on evidence. AdJuror 13 had made several religious comments about the trial, including that the Holy Spirit told the juror Brown was not guilty. In a brief filed in December, prosecutors said the man made the Holy Spirit comment at the beginning of jury deliberations. โI donโt think it (the Holy Spirit) comment is, in and of itself, disqualifying,โ Rhodes said. AdJudge Kevin Newsom dubbed the jurorโs Holy Spirit comment the โradioactive statementโ in the case.
Former Jacksonville City Council members to be sentenced Thursday
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ The long-delayed sentencing hearing for former Jacksonville City Council members Katrina Brown and Reggie Brown is expected to reach a conclusion Thursday. The jury found Katrina Brown guilty on all 37 counts and Reggie Brown guilty on 33 of 34 counts against him. A last few witnesses were called by attorneys for Katrina Brown and Reggie Brown, including Katrina Brownโs uncle, her pastor and Reggie Brownโs ex-wife. โWeโre going to ask the city of Jacksonville to pray,โ Reggie Brown told News4Jax while leaving court. We never had any conversation about doing anything wrong unethical or illegal,โ Reggie Brown said.
Grand jury to be impaneled Monday to get trial process moving again
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ To prevent the spread of COVID-19, orders were issued in March that suspended jury trials and other proceedings at courthouses across Florida. That process is beginning Monday when several hundred prospective jurors will come to the Duval County Courthouse to be considered for selection on the 4th Judicial Circuitโs grand jury. RELATED: Court eyes COVID-19 delays in criminal casesDistrict 4 Chief Judge Mark Mahon explained that first-degree murder charges must be brought through the grand jury process, so those cases canโt move forward without an impaneled grand jury. โTheir seats will be assigned for the duration of the jury selection. If you did not receive a jury summons this week, hundreds more will be sent out in the coming days since jury trials are expected to resume the week of Oct. 12.

City inspectors cited the property owners for the trash left on the ground after dumpsters were removed from the complex.
