Jacksonville Compost Awareness Month

Founded in 2016, Apple Rabbit Compost is Jacksonville’s first food scrap composting business. They work with residents, restaurants, businesses, and other organizations to divert food scraps from the landfill to create compost. They give this compost back to their subscribers or to community gardens and other non-profits. People can sign up for their composting services at http://www.applerabbit.org

Apple Rabbit Compost founder, Tiffany Bess, sent in a proclamation request to the Mayors office to join others across the globe who celebrate International Compost Awareness Week the first full week of May. Mayor Donna Deegan did one better and declared the whole Month of May Compost Awareness Month in Jacksonville.

Apple Rabbit Compost has partnered with the Murray Hill Farmers Market on the 29th, 5-8pm at Fishweir Brewing, to close out the month with a Compost Celebration. Four of Jacksonville’s best Soil-mates (Tay Hinton from Little Earth Wigglers, Nathan Ballentine from Man in Overalls, Allen Skinner from Soil Life Organics, and Tiffany Bess from Apple Rabbit Compost) will be giving presentations during the market about Compost and why it’s important, with educational and interactive activities.
