March is National Nutrition Month, a great time to reflect on the foods and habits that shape our health and wellness. Registered Dietitian Mia Syn has simple tips to elevate you and your family’s nutrition and wellness routines this month and the months ahead.

Snack smarter. Pistachios are a great snack option for the whole family because they are one of the few plant-based sources of complete protein with 6 grams of protein per serving, so they contain all nine essential amino acids need for growth and development for ages five and older. They also contain healthy fat and are a good source of fiber.

Eat seafood 2x per week. Eating seafood twice per week, as recommended by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, offers several health benefits due to the unique nutritional profile of seafood. Seafood is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, high-quality protein, vitamins and minerals.

Hone in on hydration. Sugar-sweetened beverages are a source of empty calories meaning they provide energy but no significant nutrition. Make hydration more fun with flavored lemon water.

Support your pet’s nutrition. Opt for nutrient-rich food made with quality protein and ingredients that support immune and gastrointestinal health.
