Deployed overseas and having to talk on a video call, 24-year-old Army medic Christopher Carre reacted with stunned disbelief as he found out he had just won a new car.
“No way, No Way, that’s awesome! You’re not playing with me right now?” exclaimed Carre, as we revealed that he was indeed the Hyundai Hometown Heroes winner for the active military category.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Christopher joined the Army to achieve his goals in life while serving his country. He was nominated for this award by multiple members of his family. In her nomination letter, his mother Erin describes Christopher as someone who has overcome numerous personal challenges to become the soldier he is today. Christopher is also described as always putting others before himself, demonstrating exceptional bravery on and off the battlefield.
Upon learning how many people supported him, Christopher was overwhelmed with emotion.
“To hear that I was nominated by so many people,” said Carre, “in a military town where there are so many military members who are doing wonderful things every day, it’s truly an honor.”

My son Sgt. Christopher Carre has done nothing but help others his whole life. He is the epitome of strength, courage, and honor. He has overcome numerous personal challenges (severe OCD, depression, anxiety, homelessness, etc.) to become the soldier he is today. He has followed in his Grandfather’s footstep and is proud to serve his country. He is “doc” (68W Combat Medic), and ensures his entire unit and base are healthy. He’s willing to die to save and remove injured people on the battlefield. He is currently deployed to a tumultuous area, for almost a year. He even cooks and bakes for his fellow soldiers, just to brighten their day. He is more than just a soldier, he’s the most caring, big hearted, considerate, person I’ve ever met. He deserves to be recognized for all he does for others.

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Christopher is serving our country overseas in the US Army. He personifies what it means to be a Hero…putting others before himself, and demonstrating exceptional bravery and leadership on and off the battlefield. He embodies courage, commitment, and selfless service. As a combat medic, he assists injured soldiers and civilians, risking his own safety to render aid and rescue others. He also served on the front lines during the Pandemic, treating critically ill patients with compassion and empathy. Christopher is the person who will teach a fellow soldier, or a complete stranger, something that will make their life easier. His commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others is a true testament to his character. He is an inspiration to his family, his fellow soldiers, and everyone who meets him. It is with great honor that I nominate him for the Hometown Hero Award.
Christopher will receive his new Hyundai Tucson when he returns from his current deployment.
When asked where was the first place he would drive his new car? He replied, “Home to visit my family.”
