1. Bartram Trail (2-0, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Oviedo, Ponte Vedra.

Glance: The back-to-back state champs have perhaps the best player in the state on their roster (Florida signee and All-News4JAX player of the year Ryann Frechette) and a wall in the goal in Maddie Stevens. Bartram has a new coach in Megan O’Grady, who has the Bears out to a hot start. Up next is Episcopal on Tuesday, the last team to have beaten Bartram. The Bears have won 11 straight games dating back to last season. They’re an easy pick to open at the top.

2. Episcopal (2-2, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Creekside, Gulf Breeze.

Glance: The Eagles have lost to unbeaten Plant (13-11) and a Hagerty team that was 20-5 last year. They’ve got wins over a 4-1 Creekside (17-2) and Gulf Breeze (17-4). They’re also the last area team to have beaten powerhouse Bartram, the most decorated team in area history.

3. Ponte Vedra (2-4, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Oak Hall.

Glance: The Sharks’ record is deceptive. Ponte Vedra was a final four team last season and has played a wicked schedule to start. The combined records of the opponents it has lost to is 12-1. Those teams (Bartram Trail, Tampa Plant, St. Thomas Aquinas and Delray Beach American Heritage) are bluebloods in the state. The Sharks get back to local action on Tuesday at rival Nease.

4. Tocoi Creek (4-0, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Bolles, St. Augustine.

Glance: Excellent start for the Toros, with their two best wins (St. Augustine and Bolles) in their last two times out. A pair of 3-1 teams (Fleming Island and Menendez) are up next Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Sophomore scoring machine Ashley Cotter, an All-News4JAX selection last year, has been lethal thus far. She’s got 27 goals in four games. Cotter had 52 goals as a freshman.

5. Creekside (4-1, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Fleming Island, Gulf Breeze, Oviedo, Winter Park.

Glance: The Knights lost to No. 3 Episcopal big in their opener (17-2) but they’ve won four straight since. They’ve got St. Augustine (Monday), Oak Hall (Friday) and Cherokee, Ga. (Saturday) up next. Natalie Charyak (18 goals) is leading the Knights.

6. St. Augustine (1-2, Class 1A)

Notable win: Nease.

Glance: The Yellow Jackets finished 16-6 last year and lost to three local teams (Bartram Trail, Episcopal and Ponte Vedra). They’ve beaten Nease and lost to Tocoi Creek to start this season, and also lost to Oak Hall. They’ve got a big test Monday night against No. 5 Creekside.

Others

Beachside (2-1, Class 1A); Bolles (1-2, Class 1A); Fleming Island (3-1, Class 1A); Fletcher (2-2, Class 2A); Mandarin (3-1, Class 2A); Menendez (3-1, Class 1A); Nease (1-2, Class 2A).
