Providence boys look for redemption in Class 3A basketball state semis

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The high school basketball state semifinals are in Lakeland this week. A look at the Class 3A matchup.

Providence (24-5) vs. Windermere Prep (23-7)

Where: RP Funding Center, Lakeland

When: Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Watch it: Game can be streamed through the NFHS Network. Cost is $11.99 for a monthly pass.

Winner gets: Riviera Prep or Berkeley Prep in the Class 3A state championship on Friday at 8 p.m.

Notable: The Stallions are in the state semifinals for the second straight season and enter this one on a 15-game winning streak. Windermere Prep, led by former Stallions assistant coach Brian Hoff, beat Providence 55-43 in the final four game last year. Providence and coach Jim Martin have been perennial state contenders. Martin has won three state championships and played for another. G Chris Arias (13.9 ppg), G Caleb McAbee (11.8 ppg), G Brady Patterson (10.2 ppg) and G David Fonville (9.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg) lead a very balanced Providence squad. The Stallions will be at a size deficiency against a taller Lakers squad. Seven-foot C Sinan Huan had nine rebounds against Providence in last year’s final four. He’s averaging 8.9 boards a game.
