Providence gets another shot at Miami Country Day in girls basketball state semi

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The girls high school basketball tournament is this week in Lakeland. A look at the Class 3A game between Providence and Miami Country Day.

Class 3A girls basketball state semifinals

Providence (26-2) vs. Miami Country Day (20-8)

Where: RP Funding Center, Lakeland

When: Wednesday, 5 p.m.

Watch it: Game can be streamed through the NFHS Network. Cost is $11.99 for a monthly pass.

Winner gets: Cardinal Mooney or Seffner Christian in the Class 3A state championship on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Notable: The Stallions are making their third trip to the state semifinals. Each time in Lakeland, Providence will have seen Miami Country Day. The Stallions reached the 2017 state championship game at 28-0 before running into a wicked Spartans team and lost 81-40. They returned to the final four last year and faced Miami Country Day, losing 58-33. Providence is young (no seniors) but it is more confident this season than last. G Janie Boyd (14.1 ppg) is back from injury this season and leads the team in scoring. Janai Jordan (13.8 ppg), Julianna Baskin (10.9 ppg, 9.9 rpg) and Kasey Davey (8.8 ppg, 6 rpg), all underclassmen, follow Boyd in scoring.
