1. St. Johns Country Day (4-0, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Buchholz, Florida High, North Florida Christian, Thomasville (Ga.).

Glance: The Spartans are once again stacked to the bill of the baseball cap with talent for coach Tom Lucas. They’ve started hot against a stout schedule. Collin Briggs (.556), Preston Cole (.400), James Gilson (.400), Kody Daneault (.333) and Kolt Myers (.308) lead the plate attack.

2. Providence (2-1, Class 3A)

Notable wins: University Christian, Wolfson.

Glance: The Stallions dropped their first game of the season Thursday to 5-1 Grissom High School (Ala.), 4-2 in the Perfect Game High School Showdown at the Hoover Met Sports Complex in Alabama. Not a bad loss for Providence, which plays a brutal schedule and went to the state semifinals last year under coach Tommy Boss. Mason Wortman leads the Stallions early (.500, 6 RBI, 2 HR).

3. Trinity Christian (1-1, Class 3A)

Notable win: Mill Creek.

Glance: The Conquerors have split against out-of-area teams Sam Houston (Louisiana), a team coming off a 33-5 season, and Mill Creek. They’ll have a steady blend of tough quality area and non-local teams throughout the year, including district rival Providence. Brayden Harris (.571) and Brady Harris (.500) are the big names here. Brady was a first-team All-News4JAX selection as a freshman and Brayden was a second teamer.

4. Bishop Kenny (4-0, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Fernandina Beach, Tocoi Creek.

Glance: The Crusaders played for a state championship last season for coach Tommy Edwards and have picked up where they left off. The bats have been working overtime. Four players — Derek Heideman, Troy Ancayan, Owen Delaney and Colin Ulrich — are hitting .364 or better.

5. Clay (3-0, Class 5A)

Notable wins: Keystone Heights, Ponte Vedra.

Glance: Solid start for the Blue Devils, who also have a win over Nease. Up next are Georgia schools Lee County and Brantley County on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Parker Lowrance (.500, 4 RBI) and Easton McMahan (.333) are leading the Blue Devils at the plate. Merrick Rapoza is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA

6. First Coast (4-0, Class 5A)

Notable wins: Mandarin, Wolfson.

Glance: The notable Ws are a bit misleading, because both Wolfson and Mandarin are off to rough starts. But those programs combined for 35 wins last year and should get things turned around. The Buccaneers have reigning player of the year Hunter Carns back, and he is worth the price of admission. Carns is off to a 9 for 12 jump (.750, 6 RBI) with three homers. The Bucs are in ahead of Creekside and Baker County in this Super 6.

Others

Baker County (2-0, Class 4A); Baldwin (4-1, Class 3A); Bartram Trail (3-2, Class 7A); Beachside (4-1, Class 5A); Bishop Snyder (3-1, Class 3A); Bolles (3-0, Class 3A); Englewood (4-0, Class 5A); Episcopal (2-1, Class 3A); Fernandina Beach (1-2, Class 3A); Fleming Island (1-1, Class 6A); Ridgeview (1-1, Class 5A); St. Augustine (4-0, Class 5A); Sandalwood (2-1, Class 7A); Tocoi Creek (2-2, Class 4A); University Christian (4-1, Class 2A).
