1. (2) Episcopal (3-2, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Creekside, Gulf Breeze.

Glance: The Eagles have Bartram Trail’s number. Only one game since our last Super 6 but it was a huge one. Episcopal beat previous No. 1 Bartram 13-9 to beat the two-time defending state champ for the second time in two seasons. Great win for the Eagles. They’ve got a powerful Lake Highland Prep up next on Tuesday before a long Spring Break.

2. (1) Bartram Trail (3-1, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Oviedo, Ponte Vedra.

Glance: The Bears saw their 11-game winning streak end with a 13-9 loss to Episcopal. Bartram’s last loss was also to Episcopal. They responded by winning their next nine games and the Class 2A state championship. They’ve got Nease on Tuesday followed by Delray Beach American Heritage and St. Thomas Aquinas next Monday and Tuesday. The clash against Aquinas is a rematch of last year’s state championship game, won in a 5-4 thriller by Bartram. Reigning All-News4JAX player of the year Ryann Frechette hit a milestone in the loss to Episcopal, scoring her 500th career point.

3. (3) Ponte Vedra (3-5, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Nease, Oak Hall.

Glance: The Sharks need to be measured differently than most in the Super 6. Their five losses are to state heavyweights (Bartram Trail, Delray American Heritage, Lake Highland Prep, St. Thomas Aquinas and Tampa Plant), teams who are a combined 22-5. Included in those are the defending state champs (Bartram, American Heritage) and the state runners-up (Aquinas, Lake Highland Prep). No team locally has played a schedule that even holds a candle to that.

4. (5) Creekside (6-2, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Cherokee (Ga.), Fleming Island, Gulf Breeze, Oviedo, St. Augustine, Winter Park.

Glance: A 2-1 mark for the Knights since our last Super 6, with wins over St. Augustine (13-12) and Cherokee (13-12). I bumped the Knights over Tocoi Creek due to their win over Cherokee. Creekside and the Toros square off Tuesday night in a battle of top 5 teams. Natalie Charyak (32 goals) and Hailey Josleyn (14 goals, 13 assists) are leading the Knights.

5. (4) Tocoi Creek (6-1, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Bolles, Fleming Island, Menendez, St. Augustine.

Glance: The Toros went 2-1 since our last update, with quality Ws over Fleming Island (14-2) and Menendez (18-5). The loss was a 15-12 game to Georgia program Cherokee, a state playoff quarterfinalist last season. Not a bad loss. I’m excited to see how Tocoi fares against Ponte Vedra on Thursday. Sophomore Ashley Cotter continues her torrid season. She’s got 39 goals and 14 assists.

6. (NR) Fleming Island (3-2, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Gainesville, Menendez.

Glance: Tough call for this spot. St. Augustine was here last week and the Yellow Jackets may rise into the Super 6 again. But they’re off to a tough 1-5 spot. The Golden Eagles have losses to Creekside and Tocoi Creek, but have an 8-7 win over a Menendez team that I thought about putting in here. Fleming has a big one on Tuesday against Beachside.

Dropped out

St. Augustine (1-5, Class 1A).

Others

Beachside (3-1, Class 1A); Bolles (2-3, Class 1A); Fletcher (3-3, Class 2A); Mandarin (5-1, Class 2A); Menendez (5-2, Class 1A); Nease (2-3, Class 2A); Providence (2-0, Class 1A).
