1. (1) Fleming Island (5-0, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Middleburg, New Smyrna Beach, Ocala Forest, Stanton.

Glance: Our wire-to-wire No. 1 team last year is still locked in to the top spot two weeks in to our Super 6. But Fleming Island has a monster game on Thursday night against No. 2 Paxon. London Jenkins remains in the conversation as the area’s best player. She’s got 220 rushing yards (4 TDs) and 190 receiving yards (TD). On defense, Jenkins has four picks. Gabi Musa (39 tackles) has built off of her stellar junior season. Fleming hasn’t lost to a local team since a 21-13 game to Middleburg on April 4, 2022. Will it find another gear on offense against Paxon? The Golden Eagles are averaging 17.4 ppg, but that’s misleading. Most of that (46) came in a blowout of Ridgeview. They are averaging 10.3 ppg in the other four. But defense has been another story. Fleming has give up just eight points all season.

2. (3) Paxon (5-0, Class 1A)

Notable win: Stanton.

Glance: The knock on Paxon has been the lack of meat on the schedule. The Golden Eagles added a significant win last week with a 7-0 win over previous No. 2 Stanton. Senior Ansley Hicks leads what should be an excellent Paxon squad. They get a major test at the No. 2 Blue Devils on Thursday night. Can they stack another W when they visit No. 1 Fleming Island on Thursday night? Outside of Fletcher on March 14, there aren’t many remaining hurdles. A win over Fleming would put Paxon on track for an unbeaten regular season.

3. (5) Middleburg (3-1, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Florida Deaf, White.

Glance: Quality start for the Broncos, who laid the hammer to a Florida Deaf team (45-0) that it lost to last season. Their lone loss is to No. 1 Fleming in a competitive 13-0 game. Baker County is up next on Thursday before Spring Break.

4. (2) Stanton (3-2, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Fletcher, Yulee.

Glance: The Blue Devils dropped their second 7-0 game of the season since our last Super 6, falling to now No. 2 Paxon. They bounced back with a 49-0 rout of Wolfson. Up next is first-year program Bartram Trail (Friday) and then a trip to a tough Atlantic Coast on March 13. Quality W over Fletcher and two tough games against Paxon and Fleming keep Stanton balanced in the Super 6. Competition matters.

5. (NR) Menendez (6-0, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Flagler Palm Coast, Florida Deaf, Palatka

Glance: The Falcons join the Super 6 after a quality stretch that includes Ws over FPC (13-6), Florida Deaf (31-0) and Palatka (12-6). They also beat first-year team Bartram Trail (30-7).

T6. (4) Bradford (3-1, Class 1A)

Notable wins: None.

Glance: It’s been an OK start for the Tornadoes, but they just haven’t faced a team of substance thus far. They had back-to-back wins over Keystone Heights since our last Super 6. They’re off until March 19 and a trip to Santa Fe.

T6. (6) White (5-1, Class 1A)

Notable win: Sandalwood.

Glance: Nice 12-0 win over Sandalwood since our last Super 6. The Commanders have lit opponents up to the tune of 126-13 this season. The schedule, like a few other teams, hasn’t been difficult in the front half of the season. But the big games are coming and in a hurry, too. Fletcher on Thursday kicks off a stretch where the Commanders will see unbeaten Fort Pierce Central (March 14) and No. 1 Fleming Island (March 25) and Raines (March 26).

Others

Atlantic Coast (3-2, Class 2A); Clay (2-0, Class 1A); Fletcher (3-1, Class 2A); Mandarin (4-1, Class 2A); Raines (3-0, Class 1A); Sandalwood (3-2, Class 2A).
