JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Autonomous vehicles are on the way – with Jacksonville in the spotlight.
Florida State College at Jacksonville launched a driverless vehicle to shuttle students on campus.
The makers of the technology have a local connection – that Kent Justice uncovers during the newest episode of This Week in Jacksonville: Business Edition.
Joe Moye is from a Navy family that served at Mayport and stayed in town.

Now Moye runs Beep, the company behind the autonomous vehicles used by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.
“We specialize in deploying purpose-built, autonomous multi-passenger electric shuttles,” Moye said. “In essence, changing the way we move people in society by providing an alternative means to personal transportation or more importantly, providing alternatives to people that don’t have alternative or don’t have other means of transportation.”

Moye explained the vision behind bringing the project to the River City.
“So arterial services in a downtown area like Jacksonville or a campus, a medical campus or an academic campus or a business campus airport. if you think of that type of movement, that’s really what we’re bringing to bear the form of both technology and vehicle platform,” he said.
