JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Incredible talents and skills, and a tricky spot in life... women veterans are a key to local businesses, and in this week’s episode of This Week in Jacksonville: Business Edition, we’re focusing on how they make the transition from women in uniform to civilian life.
Dee Quaranta is the founder, CEO, and president of Northeast Florida Women’s Veterans. She also retired after 20 years in the United States Air Force. Her organization honors her colleagues and compatriots during the 10th annual Women Veterans Recognition Week.

“So ten years ago, there wasn’t a whole lot of conversation about women veterans,” Quaranta said. “And so I thought if I started celebrating women veterans just take a week and start having events, it would bring more community awareness. Not only that we were here in the community, but some of the challenges and accomplishments that are connected to women veterans.”
Quaranta explained those challenges women veterans have overcome. Plus, she discussed the workforce issues, which even included learning a new language: civilian versus military-speak.
Quaranta also dispels a myth women veterans often believed during their transition.
