Sherrod Brown honed his performance skills in Jacksonville before embarking on an adventure that eventually landed him on Broadway as part of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Jana chatted with Brown on Thursday ahead of his hometown headlining concert at 7 p.m. Friday at Underbelly.
“It was absolutely insane,” Brown said of his Broadway experience. “I literally left Europe on a Thursday and was in New York on Monday and started rehearsals. It was crazy. ... I’m grateful. It was amazing.”
Brown was a finalist for the Music Excellence Award at the 2024 Jacksonville Image Awards, and Jana shared a special moment backstage at the awards when Brown was preparing his students for a performance.
“When they would get worried, I heard you say to one student, ‘You are the performance. You are going to be great. There is no other thought,’” Jana recalled.
